What was the best birthday present you ever received, and why?
A homemade Batman cape for my fifth birthday, because I was an obsessive fan who wouldn’t dare dream such a thing was possible.
What smell do you find irresistible?
Cut grass in the summertime instantly takes me back to childhood, playing cricket in the backyard with a test match on the radio.
What is your least favourite thing about humanity?
Parochialism.
What is one strong childhood memory?
Coming up to see a Bledisloe Cup test at Carisbrook. The entire city swung in behind it, the atmosphere was amazing, and that’s when I fell in love with Dunedin.
What is your message?
The city is heading in the right direction but we need to do more, and faster.
