Noel Aitken, of Milton, is the new president of  the Dunedin Orphans Club. Part of a worldwide club for entertainers, the Dunedin branch of the Orphans Club was formed in 1898 and has 75 members.

What was the best birthday present you ever received, and why?

A metal toy farm set from England, given to me by my grandmother in 1950, when I was 7 years old. It was very expensive at the time. To keep it in good condition, I was only allowed to play with it on my own.

What smell do you find irresistible?

The smell of leather interiors of European luxury cars.

What is your least favourite thing about humanity?

It is the inhumanity of man in religious groups.

What's something only your family knows about you?

I'm a secret hoarder.

You are a new addition to the crayon box. What colour are you, and why?

Green because it is a fertile colour and represents the hope for new beginnings.
