Barking dog 'led to armed dispute'

A barking dog has led to a neighbourhood dispute in which a man allegedly threatened the animal's owner with a knife and gun in Sydney's west.

Police said that at about 4.30pm (AEDT) yesterday two men began arguing over the dog outside a house in Willmot.

They said a 38-year-old man was threatened with a knife before the offender went into his own house and returned with a rifle which he allegedly pointed at the man.

Witnesses standing in the street ran for safety and police were called, arresting a 23-year-old man at the scene.

Police said that during a search of his house officers seized an air rifle, allegedly used in the incident, as well as another rifle, ammunition and prohibited drugs.

The 23-year-old has been charged with common assault, possessing an unregistered firearm, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and stalking/intimidating a person.

He was refused bail to appear in Mt Druitt Local Court on Thursday.
