Man in court for murder of grandmother

A man charged with the murder of a wealthy Sydney grandmother intends to apply for bail at his next court appearance.

Tony Halloun, 33, appeared in Burwood local court today charged with the murder of Shanoz Qidwai, 65, at her family mansion in Henley, in Sydney's northwest, on June 15.

A woman, who appeared to be Halloun's partner, blew him a kiss as he sat in the dock and seemed distraught during the brief court proceedings.

Halloun's lawyer, Warwick Anderson, did not apply for bail but told the court his client intended to make an application at his next court appearance on August 29.

Detectives carried out forensic procedures on Halloun after they arrested him at a job site in Russell Lea yesterday morning.

Outside court his family reacted aggressively to reporters who asked questions about the charges.

"Do you want me to break it (the camera) for you?" an older gentleman yelled at a television cameraman.
