Kristi Anne Abrahams has pleaded guilty to murdering her six-year-old daughter Kiesha in western Sydney.
Abrahams, 30, entered the guilty plea in the Supreme Court on Monday on what was expected to be the first day of her murder trial.
Kiesha Weippeart was reported missing from her Mt Druitt home on August 1, 2010.
Abrahams was charged with murder after human remains were discovered in bushland at Mt Druitt eight months later in April 2011 - on what would have been Kiesha's seventh birthday.
Last month, Abrahams' partner, Robert Smith, was jailed for at least 12 years after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of negligence and to being an accessory after the fact of murder.
The court heard Abrahams knocked the little girl unconscious in July 2010, before the couple put her to bed and did not seek medical help.
After she died, they kept Kiesha's body in a suitcase for five days before burning it and burying her remains in a shallow bushland grave.
They then pretended for the next eight months that the little girl had disappeared from home.
Following a lengthy undercover police operation, Abrahams and Smith were arrested at the scene of Kiesha's shallow grave.
A post-mortem examination of Kiesha's body showed she had suffered long-term physical abuse in the weeks and months leading up to her death.
Abrahams pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month, but the plea was not accepted by the Crown, which was determined to try her for murder.
