Latest grant for pool $50,000

The physio pool fundraising tally has nearly hit $400,000 in six weeks of a campaign to raise $1.5 million.

The latest grant is $50,000 from the AAW Jones Charitable Trust. Otago Therapeutic Pool Trust secretary-treasurer Neville Martin said community trusts were coming forward with sizeable donations, which was a huge help to the fundraising effort.

The latest donation was very large considering the relatively modest size of the trust.

''For this trust it is a big effort.''

Individual donations from members of the public were also hugely important, and were coming in every day.

The public's support was crucial for saving the pool, Mr Martin said.

He encouraged people to buy tickets for the physio pool's fundraising dance on June 20 at Forbury Park.

Tickets were $60 each, or $550 for a group of 10 people.

Contemporary folk duo Catgut and Steel had been booked for the evening.

The dance starts at 7.30pm and includes a silent auction.

The physio pool campaign aims to raise $1.5 million, of which $1 million is for capital upgrades.

So far, more than $395,000 has been raised.

The AAW Jones Charitable Trust grant follows two grants of $100,000 each from The Healthcare Otago Charitable Trust and the Alexander McMillan Trust earlier this month.
