Diggers demolish the walls of the Fryatt St sheds in Dunedin yesterday.

The buildings are being razed as part of a $3 million Port Otago project to become asbestos-free.

The site is expected to be cleared by the middle of the year.

The plan was then to open it to public access as a fishing wharf, at least until the proposed waterfront development spread to that part of the basin.
