The event, held at Emersons Brewery, showcased 35 art pieces given to the trust to raise money to produce more street art in the city.

Dunedin Street Arts Charitable Trust chairman Scott Muir said the trust wanted to continue beautifying the city with the large-scale artworks.

Each of the artworks produced on city walls cost between $7000 and $10,000.

Mr Muir said the support from international artists had inspired more local artists to ''have a shot'' at it themselves.

All but two pieces of art were sold, raising more than $20,000.

''We'll get lots more art in the city because of it.

''We're very very happy,'' he said.

Some of the artworks on auction last night were from artists who had contributed to the large-scale murals in the city.
