The informal conversation about Lemalu’s career came after the international opera star performed as a soloist with the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra at the Dunedin Town Hall on Saturday night.
Alongside his busy international singing career, Lemalu is professor of vocal studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
He told The Star this visit home to Dunedin would allow him to spend time with his parents, Foalima and Tasi Lemalu.
He will also perform in Arrowtown, Christchurch and Wellington.
