Treasure hunts traditionally involve gems and gold, but the Caversham Community Treasure Hunt ended in the discovery of riches of a very different kind.

About 250 people spent several hours yesterday afternoon following a series of trails around the Caversham community, exploring the treasures it holds.

The novel event was organised by Caversham Community Group, and prompted participants to visit activity stations which highlighted the community's treasures.

Event organiser Noora Frantz said the treasures included parts of the landscape, people with various talents or knowledge and community resources, groups and projects.

She said the hunt was not only designed to showcase the suburb, but bring those living in it together to socialise and network.

It was hoped the event would build foundations for community resilience and develop a greater understanding of who was who in the community, she said.

The trails converged at Kew Reserve, where a picnic was held with music and prizes to celebrate the people and places that make up Caversham.
