A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said crews were called to an Avondale St address at 11.56am.
They found a small fire, which had damaged the kitchen and roof.
Nobody was in the house at the time, the spokesman said.
Crews from Lookout Point, St Kilda, and Dunedin Central attended.
