Armed robbery at Sth Dunedin liquor store

A woman who allegedly carried out an armed robbery at a South Dunedin bottle shop last night is in police custody.

A police spokeswoman said the 43-year-old was today charged with aggravated robbery following the incident at Thirsty Liquor, on the corner of Hillside Rd and Helena St, about 10pm Saturday.

"One female, who was believed to be armed, made off with an amount of alcohol.

"The woman was apprehended and taken into custody".

The man who was working in the bottle shop at the time of the alleged armed robbery said he had owned the franchise for just three weeks.

He had worked in retail outlets in Papatoetoe, Auckland previously where such incidents were commonplace, he said.

"We did not think it would happen here."

The alleged offender is set to appear in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow, the spokeswoman said.
