Spate of burglaries in city

A Dunedin family’s Christmas presents were stolen at the weekend in what was an unusually busy time for burglaries.

Acting Sergeant Tracy Turner said there were several break-ins and burglaries in Dunedin on Friday and Saturday.

One of the burglaries involved the theft of several "toys and Christmas presents" from a property in Ocean Grove on Saturday.

Sgt Turner said the family was still calculating the value of the toys and presents stolen. The house was secured, she said.

An Xbox and other electronics were also taken from a North Dunedin property yesterday morning. Alcohol was also taken from the property, which Sgt Turner said was likely to be a student flat. It was "secured but not necessarily locked".

Electronics were  taken from a South Dunedin property.

A speaker was taken from a St Kilda house  yesterday afternoon and a single number plate taken from a vehicle in central Dunedin.
