Public pube-shaving the last straw

Seeing her neighbour shave his pubic hair in public was the last straw for a Dunedin woman, who then called the police.

The 40-year-old man was observed by his neighbour in the midst of the grooming outside his home in Opoho Rd at 12.50pm on Friday, Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said.

The neighbour, who did not want to be named, said the man had a history of urinating off the balcony and the pubic-hair shaving tipped her over the edge.

"I looked out my window and he’s shaving his pubes right there."

The area was dense with student flats and the constant indecent behaviour made them feel uncomfortable, she said.

"That’s just not what you want to see when you’re having your breakfast."

During past interactions the man had been "kind of aggressive", which made her feel uneasy approaching him about the issue.

She hoped police intervention would make him realise his behaviour was unwanted.

She gave him credit for acting calmly when the officers arrived to discuss the issue.

He took the attendance of the police "like a champ".

Snr Sgt Bond said they "spoke to him and educated him on the appropriate place to do this, which would be inside his house".
