Council chief exec recruitment process ‘ongoing’

The Dunedin City Council yesterday declined to say when its chief executive’s position will be advertised.

Sue Bidrose was appointed to the role in November 2013 and her seven-year contract — of five years, plus a two-year rollover — expires in November this year.

The council’s chief executive appointment committee met yesterday and when asked for an update on the process, Dunedin Mayor Aaron Hawkins issued a brief statement.

"The recruitment process is ongoing and we will comment at the appropriate time."

The position is legally required to be advertised.

Earlier this week, Dr Bidrose declined to comment on whether she would seek to extend her time in the role.

The members of the appointment committee are Mr Hawkins and Crs David Benson-Pope, Mike Lord, Marie Laufiso, Jim O’Malley and Chris Staynes.

We know what sort of CEO the major and his selected team wants. The crisis has shown how out of touch the DCC is with its funders- you the ratepayer. When will the continual rates increases stop to fund their non-essential pet projects? Maybe another Marketing Executive to promote Plan D? More road spots? how about make all of Dunedin pedestrian/cycle/bus lanes?

I guess I'm confused; the DCC selection committee said "it didn't know when its chief executive’s position will be advertised." The mayor said, "The recruitment process is ongoing and we will comment at the appropriate time." Odd, how can the process be ongoing if the position hasn't been advertised? Sounds like they have already made the decision to continue with Dr. Bidrose as the Dunedin CEO. What's the real status here? Is the fix in for Bidrose or is something else going on?
