Security cameras installed on scaffolding around Dunedin’s Municipal Chambers and Civic Centre to deter people performing parkour are working a treat, representatives have been told.

At Monday’s Dunedin City Council audit and risk committee meeting, health and safety manager Jane Pearce said teenagers had been climbing the scaffolding — "having a lovely time up there".

The council had set up a camera detection system and closed sections people were using to gain access.

"It’s been an awesome way to control a risk that was getting a little bit hairy with people doing their parkour."

Scaffolding had been erected as part of an overall exterior restoration project, including for the Dunedin Town Hall, which is expected to continue until at least 2028.
