A raft of driver illness has caused dozens of bus cancellations across Dunedin this week.
The Otago Regional Council has apologised to passengers whose travel was disrupted.
Council transport implementation lead Julian Phillips said from Monday to yesterday, 41 trips were cancelled across the Dunedin network.
Most were linked to one of the council’s two operators experiencing a "higher than usual" level of driver illness.
"For example, [yesterday] seven drivers from that operator are unavailable due to sickness," Mr Phillips said.
"We know cancellations are inconvenient for passengers and we’re sorry to those whose travel has been disrupted."
The Dunedin network typically operated about 5000 trips between Monday and Friday, and most ran as scheduled.
"We and our operators are working closely together to minimise disruption, including reallocating drivers where possible and prioritising the busiest routes and peak-time services," Mr Phillips said.
"We expect normal reliability levels to return as driver availability improves."
Service updates were available on the Orbus website.
