Dunedin breaks June temperature record

Winter, what winter?

The first day of the new season arrived not with a chill but a pleasant dose of record-breaking sunshine.

Dunedin Airport today recorded a balmy 20.8degC, the warmest June temperature since recording began there in 1972.

The reading beat the previous record set in 2003 by 0.4°C.

The rest of the week shapes as a resumption of normal service with forecast highs of between 12degC and 14degC.
