Five more city burglaries reported to police

Five more burglaries have been reported in Dunedin and Mosgiel, after police issued a warning this week about a spate of break-ins in the city.

Acting Senior Sergeant Trevor Thomson, of Dunedin, said the following burglaries were reported from Wednesday this week:

A Suzuki DR-Z400 yellow and white trail bike was taken from a home in Wray St, Brockville, between 8pm Wednesday and 3am Thursday.

• In Mosgiel, a large amount of property was taken from a home in Gladstone Rd some time between May 1 and Thursday this week. The offender or offenders entered the property through a bathroom window before taking a tablet, a Canon DSLR camera, a Veon 32-inch television and eight bottles of spirits, including a bottle of whisky covered in distinctive gold flakes. Petrol was also siphoned from a vehicle in the garage.

• On Thursday  between 9am and noon, a burglar entered a home in St Heliers Ct, Clyde Hill, through a bedroom window, before stealing an HP 15.6-inch laptop, a Samsung Galaxy cellphone and about $320 cash.

• A woman was outside her Viscount Rd, Waldronville property on Monday afternoon painting her fence when another person went around the back of her property, entered her conservatory and took a tablet sitting on the table.

• Between 10pm on Thursday and 5am yesterday, a Kathmandu vest and a full box of Speight’s Gold Medal Ale was taken from a Nissan Terrano four-wheel-drive vehicle  in Walton St, Kaikorai.A video supplied to the Otago Daily Times  by Mosgiel man Chris Johnstone shows a man prowling around his cars and peering in  windows about midnight on Wednesday.

Earlier this week, police warned homeowners to be vigilant following several burglaries in some of the city’s affluent neighbourhoods.

Constable Kylie Batten, of Dunedin, said there had been several burglaries over the past few weeks in the suburbs of Roslyn, Maori Hill and Belleknowes.

"A large number of these items hold significant sentimental value to the victims of the burglaries," Const Batten said.
