Gas leak briefly closes road

A gas leak near the corner of George and Frederick Sts, Dunedin, closed the city’s main street for a short time on Saturday evening.

A Fire Service spokesman said the road was closed after a callout at 6.28pm.

Fire crews worked to isolate a gas leak at a meter outside a building.

Police blocked the road, and the matter was handed over to a gas company representative and the building’s owner.

Fire engines left the scene at 7pm.
