719 new cases, three deaths in South

There are 719 new community cases of Covid-19 and three deaths to report in the South.

In a statement this afternoon, the Ministry of Health said nationally there were 8730 community cases and 808 current hospitalisations. The seven-day rolling average of community case numbers today is 8111.

There were 45 new deaths reported today, including three from the Southern DHB area and eight were from Canterbury.

Three were from Northland, eight from Auckland region, one from Waikato, three from Bay of Plenty, two from Lakes, one from Tairawhiti, one from Hawke's Bay, one from Taranaki, two from MidCentral, three from Whanganui, four from Wellington region and five from Nelson Marlborough.

One person was aged in their 40s, three in their 50s, five in their 60s, eight in their 70s, 12 in their 80s and 16 were aged over 90. Of these people, 25 were women and 20 were men.

The total number of deaths confirmed as attributable to Covid-19, either as the underlying cause of death or as a contributing factor, now stands at 1427. The seven-day rolling average of the increase in deaths attributable to Covid is  17.

Twenty-five people are being treated in intensive care or a high-dependency unit.
