Dunedin organisers are "elated'' by the success of yesterday's first Great Sunday Shindig, and hope to make it an annual event.

More than 200 people, including about 100 with disabilities, attended the four-hour musical event, which ran from 2pm in the South Dunedin Community Hall yesterday.

The free-entry show was billed as "an accessible-inclusive event for people with disabilities and the wider Dunedin community''.

Steve Marshall and Benton Glassey were co-organisers.

Mr Marshall, of the Community Care Trust, and Mr Glassey dreamed up the idea for the concert after realising how many musicians were also supporting people with disabilities.

"There was a lot of crowd participation'', Mr Marshall said.

"We're elated. It was a wonderful day.''

At least one support worker was in each of the bands that played yesterday: Tiny Pieces of 8, the Julian Temple Band, Tahu and the Takahes, and Left or Right Soundsystem.
