
The Koru Care Otago branch had its best feel-good moment of the year yesterday when 11 youngsters aged from 11-18 boarded a flight at Dunedin Airport to head to the Gold Coast.
Koru Care Otago chairwoman Karena Curnock said it was a great experience for the youngsters. Half the group had never been on a plane before and it would be the first time for all of them to leave the country.
The group was all massively excited and really looking forward to it, she said.
Naturally, when heading to the Gold Coast the agenda was full with theme park visits, wildlife parks and treetop adventures featuring highly, she said.
Ms Curnock said there was six adult helpers with the trip. She said there was always massive growth in the children throughout the 10-day visit.
The organisation started in 1988 and had been regularly heading to the Gold Coast since. The trip cost between $65,000 and $70,000.
Sophia MacDonell is one of the group heading across the Ditch. She has albinism, which affects her eyesight.
Rayne Davey is another off to the Gold Coast. She has Stargardt disease which is also set to affect her vision.
