Marlow Pies closes shop

Marlow Pies has closed its South Dunedin shop but has expansion plans after Fishers Foods bought a stake in the company.

Sales manager Brendan Williams said the decision was made to close its King Edward St shop because it was no longer viable after its catering operation was shifted to its Crawford St premises.

He declined to say whether there had been job losses as a result of the closure.

The closure came after the business had just merged with Dunedin-based meat company Fishers Foods.

Mr Williams said with the merger came plans to expand the business, which included upgrading its Crawford St shop.

The plan was to come up with a ''formula'' at the Crawford St shop, which if successful could mean more shops opening around New Zealand.

Fishers, being a meat company, was a good fit with Marlow Pies and there was already plans to leverage the company's expertise to expand the range of pies.
