The Leith Harrier and Athletic Club organised a run and walk to the Otago Peninsula Fallen Soldiers Memorial on Saturday.
About 30 people turned up to tackle the Peg 41 Track about 11am and conditions were perfect, organiser Chris Sole said.
"It was absolutely beautiful," Dr Sole said.
The track was in excellent condition, it was good underfoot, and the morning was not windy.
Dr Sole said the Green Hut Track Group had recently cleared gorse there.
The ascent was "tough but it's doable, and then you get this phenomenal view looking back over the ocean and then obviously on the other side is the harbour".
The hilltop memorial lists the names of 53 local soldiers who died in World War 1.
Known as Arthur’s Seat, it was completed in 1923.
Dr Sole said another group went to the monument on Saturday after the Dunedin dawn service.
