Yesterday, children from the city’s four Pioneers early childcare centres, as well as its home-based children, gathered together to perform at the 2025 Otago Polyfest at the Edgar Centre.
Pioneers director Katharine Heath-Collins said the children had been practising all year for the event.
"This is 50 years for us — it’s really exciting for us that we’ve had all this time together, and coming to Polyfest is so special," she said.
"I’m so proud of how the children have done today."
Coming to Polyfest was a chance for the children to "be proud of their culture, to be loud and proud about te reo Māori, about being Pasifika", Ms Heath-Collins said.

Many of the parents had come to participate and were all visibly "so chuffed and proud" of their little ones, she said.
The centres had all taken part in Polyfest for a very long time.
Children from the Homebase, Elm Row, Koputai, Russell St and Nursery locations took part in the performance.
The 50-year celebrations would continue for the rest of 2025, Ms Heath-Collins said.
