A pharmacy owner is installing screens at the front counter across his stores in a bid to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Chin Loh, Antidote owner, was brainstorming ideas last week about what he could do for his business after the virus arrived to New Zealand.

"I thought of three key concepts I needed to implement to keep customers and staff safe; separation, sanitation and confidence.

"This could do just that."

A 6mm acrylic prototype was made and installed yesterday, with the help of Derek Lester Building Ltd.

"The screen will prevent the possible spread of the virus."

Mr Loh said he was very happy with the result.

"It’s exactly what I wanted.

"It’s not perfect, but it is a short-term solution that eliminates some contact, which at a time like this is vital."

The screens would be rolled out across the rest of his eight Antidote pharmacies in Otago in the coming week.

"I want my customers and staff to feel safe while using our services.

"This is a way that we can practice social distancing while still getting customers what they need."
