At its meeting, on March 17 at Port Chalmers Town Hall, the board heard from Dunedin City Council Three Waters network operations and maintenance manager Mike Perkins about the "imminent commencement" of the pipe renewal work in Harrington St and Wickliffe Tce.
The work will aim to mitigate flooding issues in these streets, as well as Bernicia St, and at Port Chalmers Bowling Club in Albertson Ave.
In response to board questions, Mr Perkins said the renewed pipeline down Bernicia St and into Wickliffe Tce would be 300ml, run under the footpath, and should be sufficient to cope with rain events.
Residents in the affected area were being contacted to inform them that the work was to go ahead.
West Harbour Community Board chairwoman Francisca Griffin said the news was "magic" and that there would be many happy residents in the area.
In her report, Governance Support Officer Jennifer Lapham informed the board that its project fund contained more money than expected, with $11,000 available to distribute to community projects.
Ms Griffin urged board members to "get the word out" to groups thinking of applying to the board for funds to make applications soon, as the money must be spent by June 30.
With the Dunedin City Council’s 10 Year Plan consultations set to run from March 29 to April 29, the board planned to work on its own submission to the process.
Ms Griffin spoke about the ongoing dedication to Otago Access Radio, and the Round the Board podcasts.
The board agreed that this was a worthwhile activity and investment and voted unanimously to continue for another year.
Ms Griffin also praised the efforts of student volunteers, who had assisted with weeding and tidying up the Albertson Ave orchard area.
"It is looking stunning, which is fantastic — thanks to the students for their help."
Following the resignation of Jan Tucker from Aramoana liaison and Vision Port Chalmers, these "board responsibility" roles will be taken over by Ange McErlane.
