The Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board has asked the Dunedin City Council to investigate the re-angling of the intersection on the Southern Motorway off-ramp to Mosgiel.

At the latest board meeting in Mosgiel, board member Martin Dillon told council transport and engineer road safety team leader Hjarne Poulsen of an issue troubling elderly motorists when travelling to Mosgiel.

Motorists travelling north on the Southern Motorway and taking the off-ramp to Mosgiel had to stop at a give-way at the intersection on Quarry Rd, rather than giving way, as intended.

The angle of the approach to the intersection forced elderly motorists to stop to allow time for them to turn their head to the right and check for oncoming traffic.

Changes were needed at the intersection to allow the motorists to give way, he said. Mr Poulsen said a solution would not be easy but he would talk to NZ Transport Agency staff about the issue.
