The April 22-25 event will be formally launched on March 23 with the release of the programme and activities, funding sponsorships and confirmation of the official guest for Wild Dunedin.
Wild Dunedin convener Neil Harraway said the weekend event would have a "great spread of events'' staged by nature-related groups in the community.
Activities would include guided walks, talks, tree planting, children's activities, night-sky watching and a day event, with a Taieri Gorge train trip and a guided walk of Sutton Salt Lake.
Mr Harraway said it was unfortunate the organisers' application for charitable status was still being processed, meaning they were unable to apply for grants from foundations which allocated money for such events.
"Due to this funding restraint, we're unable to run a single big community event as we had hoped, but will do so next year. We're fine with that, as it'll give us more time to structure something special,'' Mr Harraway said.
Any groups wanting to stage an event should get in touch with organisers this week as programmes were due to be printed shortly, he said.
The Wild Dunedin website, Facebook page and Instagram account will all go live soon.
