A call to change a Dunedin bylaw outlawing skateboards on inner-city footpaths may result in a review.
Dunedin city councillor Kate Wilson said this week it was "totally my prerogative" as chairwoman of the planning and environment committee to call for a review, but she hoped for more feedback from councillors before making her decision.
The issue arose after Cr Jinty MacTavish last month said the bylaw that banned a "low carbon" form of transport on city footpaths should be reconsidered.
Cr MacTavish said she wanted Dunedin to be a city that was "friendly to young people".
She also questioned whether a bylaw banning skateboards on the footpaths of George and Princes Sts, Moray Pl and lower Stuart St, except on the "carriageway" or road, was safe.
Cr Wilson said she would get the thoughts of other councillors on the matter, and at a committee meeting on Tuesday, said two had responded who supported a review, while two did not.
She hoped by raising the issue, there would be a wider response.
If she did call for a review, it would be at a time school children and tertiary students were in the city to provide feedback. That meant it would not be until next year, if it went ahead.
