Sprayed with deodorant

A Dunedin police officer had an asthma attack after a man sprayed her in the face with his deodorant.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said police yesterday were trying to detain a 32-year-old man at a property in Wynyard St, South Dunedin, when he fled to his bedroom, grabbed an aerosol of deodorant and sprayed it in the face of an officer, getting it in her eyes.

As a result she had an asthma attack, Snr Sgt Bond said.

When police tried to get the can off the man, he sprayed a second officer in the face.

The man was arrested and charged with assaulting police. He was bailed to appear in the Dunedin District Court next week. — APL
