The sun made a welcome appearance at Wingatui’s Melbourne Cup Day today, keeping the crowd in good spirits.
But the appearance of two streakers was not quite so welcome.
A police spokeswoman said two males were arrested for streaking and received pre-charge warnings.
They were trespassed from the Wingatui Racecourse for a period of two years.
But overall, police were pleased with racegoer behaviour, she said.
Some regular race-goers said numbers were down, but sunny weather appeared to have the crowds of mostly student-aged punters in good spirits, an Otago Daily Times reporter at the racecourse this afternoon said.
The annual race day featured the standard nine races with horses, followed by the live broadcast of the Melbourne Cup on large screens.
