Australian street artist Fintan Magee's art work in Dunedin is so large he needs a new lift.
Magee began working on his piece, entitled Catching Clouds, which will cover two adjacent walls on the Scenic Hotel Southern Cross, in Rattray St, on Tuesday night.
But he could only work on the lower portions because the lift he was using could not take him higher.
Dunedin Street Art spokesman Glen Hazelton said it would be one of the largest walls Magee had worked on and would take more than a week to complete.
''We are just hoping the weather holds out and he doesn't get too cold,'' Mr Hazelton said.
The work would reach the top of the two adjacent walls and depict children catching clouds with nets.
''This will, for the time being, be the biggest [example of Dunedin street art] until we can find a bigger wall.''
Magee projected the image on to the side of the building at night to get the outline and then began filling in the detail during the day.
A higher reach lift was expected to arrive today.
