Telephone directory discontent continues

The list of Otago individuals and businesses unhappy with the new telephone directory has grown to 14 since the issue was first raised with the Otago Daily Times last week.

Direct Uniform Suppliers, in Princes St, Dunedin, is the latest business omitted from both the white and yellow pages sections of the directory, after being in it for three years.

Manager Andria Dean said it was the shop's busy time of year, with people wanting to know what stock it had and where it was located.

She suspected the problem with the listing had arisen when the company changed from Telecom to Telstra, although the two Christchurch stores did make it into their white pages.

Chamber of Commerce chief executive John Christie said yesterday businesses were often reliant on the white pages and being missed out was significant.

Mr Christie said omissions and inaccuracies could be quickly remedied in the online directories and the "hard copy" was where the trouble lay.

"I think it is fair that most of those businesses would feel aggrieved that they are not in there. I'm sure they would be wanting to seek reasonable remedy to the fact that they have been excluded."

Other complaints have been received from private individuals unhappy with the way they are listed or because they have been omitted.

Yellow corporate communications manager Lenska Papich has said previously that the company was willing to work with affected parties to rectify the problems.
