Trio in semifinal

For the second successive year, Dunedin's Mousikos Trio has been selected for the semifinal of the New Zealand Community Trust Chamber Music contest.

St Hilda's Collegiate School cellist Hannah Kim, and Columba College pianist Modi Deng and violinist Annabel Drummond will represent the Otago region in Hamilton, against 11 other regional winners. The trio reached the semifinal last year, but failed to reach the final six.

Annabel said the trio had been pushing itself in the past couple of months, and this year hoped to reach the final.

The semifinal will be held on July 15 and the final on July 16.

Three Dunedin secondary school composers have won awards in the national original composition competition that runs alongside the chamber music competition.

There were 18 entrants in the competition.

Mitchell Henderson, of Logan Park High School, was highly commended for Attaca, and commended awards were given to Harriett Adams, of St Hilda's Collegiate School, for Siva and Rowena Rushton-Green, of Logan Park High School, for Oy Vey.
