An Auckland community constable has warned young people planning a fight at a community park this weekend that he will be bringing some friends of his own along.
Beach Haven Community Constable Grant Kenny took to Facebook to warn off those planning trouble at the park, homeground of Birkenhead United Football Club and a recreational space popular with families.
An online message read: "Open party at Shepherd's Park Beach Haven for Saturday 20th October at 1930 hours. Represent your colours. If you want a fight, go to the park".
In response, Mr Kenny wrote on his own Facebook page: "I will be bringing some of my friends and our colours along for the ride. I can offer ... free accommodation for you if required."
Mr Kenny, who has 870 'likes' on his Facebook page, said he would not accept such behaviour in his suburb.
"Grow up and do something worthwhile, you are not impressing anyone," he wrote.
People planning to go to the party boldly claimed they were up to the challenge.
One wrote: "500 ppl so far I'm pretty sure ther ain't enuf police in north shore to take us on".
Another said: "Hahaha they will get poliece from out south... but theres riots planed for out west swell should be a good night for the popo [police]".
A number of posters on the page referred to the the Real Life Project, a Dutch girl's birthday party that got out of control when around 3000 people showed up in her small hometown. Her invitation had gone viral, thanks in part to a New Zealander, and the crowd that turned up looted shops and clashed with riot police
Mr Kenny first started using Facebook to get locals onside to deal with community issues just over a year ago when four homes were burgled.
He posted "I'm coming to get you" and within two days the "ratbags" responsible had been caught.
