A 5-year old girl has been killed in a motorcycle crash near Nelson this afternoon.
The incident occurred on a property in Tapawera, about 40km southwest of Nelson in Motueka Valley.
The girl was riding a small motorbike and hit a farm fence, sustaining serious injuries.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 2.15pm and officers tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the girl.
Police have spoken to witnesses and are investigating on behalf of the coroner.
The name will not be released until tomorrow to give next of kin time to be notified.
