A severe thunderstorm watch for parts of Canterbury and Otago has been lifted.
The watch was put in place this afternoon following a combination of very cool temperatures above the South Island this afternoon, surface heating and the nature of low level winds.
It was believed that combination might produce severe thunderstorms.
