Jiayi Li, also known as Kiko, has not been seen since shortly after 2am on May 19 in the Auckland suburb of Kingsland.
But police said they have found her red 1998 Toyota Altezza saloon car following a call from a Hamilton resident.
That person rang with information about the car after seeing a story on television news, police said.
The car has been taken to a secure location.
Two men from the Auckland suburb of Lynfield, aged 18 and 20, will today appear in Auckland District Court tomorrow facing charges including theft of some of Ms Li's property and the attempted use of her documents on May 19.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Sutton said there had not been any sightings of Ms Li herself but said the recovery of her car was a major breakthrough.
