'Unusual' case of the urine-soaked room

After a far from clean getaway, police are on the hunt for a campus criminal who committed a dirty deed.

Dunedin police have received a report from a North Dunedin flatter who returned to their Dundas St home after a weekend away to find their bedroom door in pieces and the room soaked in urine, Acting Senior Sergeant Trevor Thomson said.

''It's an unusual one,'' he said.

''The bedroom door was taken off its hinges and split in half, and somebody has urinated in the bedroom. Nothing was taken.''

The crime was committed sometime between April 1, the day of the Hyde St party, and April 3.

Dunedin police are again advising motorists to keep their cars locked and clear of valuables following another string of thefts from vehicles.

Overnight on Monday, two cars in Forbury Rd were entered and cash taken from both, Acting Sen Sgt Thomson said.

Tools were also taken from two other vehicles. Cash and tools were taken from a vehicle in Roberts St, Green Island, on the same night, and tools valued at $5000 were taken from a truck in Culling St between March 31 and April 3.

I hope the police understand you can get a DNA profile from urine.
