The Otago Regional Council is urging people to attend public meetings being organised throughout the region to explain and discuss the council's latest draft annual plan.

Submissions opened yesterday on the council's 2017-18 draft annual plan, which outlines proposed changes to the council's work programme from the long-term plan.

Council chairman Stephen Woodhead encouraged residents to read the consultation document, attend the meetings and provide feedback to the council on the proposed plan before the submission period closed on May 12.

A consultation document would be inserted in community newspapers to be distributed to letterboxes throughout the region this week.

This document and the draft annual plan itself were available from the council's internet site - www.orc.govt.nz - as well as from council offices and public libraries throughout Otago.

And a question and answer session will be held via the regional council's Facebook page at 7pm, Thursday, May 4.
