Four Camp Quality companions will be hoping for warm weather this weekend.

Vicki Philip, Josh Lowry, Brennan Ingram and Megan Pigou will spend the next three days surviving in a "living billboard" set up on a stage in the Octagon.

The quartet will leave the stage only for toilet breaks and a shower a day, until 5pm on Sunday.

"We're hoping to raise our profile and raise some money at the same time," Camp Quality South funding co-ordinator Gail Higgs said yesterday.

Camp Quality was established in 1985 to provide recreational experiences for children aged 5 to 16, and their families, who are living with cancer. More than 500 children now take part in New Zealand every year.

The aim of the camps was to give the children fun experiences and to encourage them to focus on the positive aspects of their lives, Mrs Gibbs said.

A charity auction will be held at 6pm today, and activities will continue all weekend in the Octagon, with barbecues, a live More FM radio broadcast and a family fun day on Sunday.

Child Cancer Foundation statistics show 150 New Zealand children are diagnosed with cancer every year.
