Officer in charge Doug McLellan said tourists were driving down a gravel road, turned the corner and fell into a ditch.
Firefighters were called to the fire at Galloway along Crawford Hills Rd, about 10km east of Alexandra, at 3.27pm.
There were no injuries.
One fire engine from Alexandra and a rural tanker from Clyde attended.
