A sea of green and red supporters are expected to cheer on the Matakanui Combined rugby team when it tackles Upper Clutha today at Becks - the first competition game at the ground for almost 20 years.
Matakanui club president Ben Hore is hoping for a good attendance at the match, especially as a third of the team hail from the Becks area.
"It's a bit of a novelty playing a home game at Becks, but the ground's in good condition and everyone's been talking about it.
It'll bring back a few memories."
Upper Clutha had agreed to Matakanui playing its home game at Becks rather than at its traditional home ground of Omakau.
"Upper Clutha occasionally play a home game at Tarras so they were open to the idea, and the Tarras game is always a good day, so we hope we can emulate that."
Matakanui stalwart Bill Clouston said there was some debate about when a competition match was last played at Becks but it was believed to be in 1992.
"This one was planned as a one-off but we're hoping, if it works, there will be one next year too. There will be a good few of the locals here and the footy and hockey kids that play their games in the morning will also turn up for this."
Mr Clouston played for the Becks Rugby Club, which folded in 1982, combining with Matakanui, and his sons had also played for the side.
The field had been receiving some extra attention in anticipation of the match and was in good condition.
The day will also raise funds for the redevelopment of the Becks Hall. The game begins at 2.45pm.
