No police comment while shooting scene examined

Dunedin police say they will not answer further questions about the St Leonards shooting while their investigation is ongoing.

Police yesterday continued their forensic examination of the Kiwi St home with ESR staff. Officers also continued to interview neighbours and nearby residents about the Wednesday night shooting, which ended in the deaths of Bradley (9) and Ellen (6) Livingstone as well as their father, Edward Livingstone.

Postmortem examinations of the deceased were carried out in Dunedin yesterday.

Dunedin Clutha Waitaki Area Commander Inspector Greg Sparrow responded to Otago Daily Times questions about the incident by issuing a general statement.

''From a police perspective, any details relating to the exact circumstances leading up to this tragic event form part of the investigation inquiries that we are conducting on behalf of the coroner,'' he said.

Insp Sparrow did confirm yesterday Mr Livingstone was the father of Bradley and Ellen. Mr Livingstone did not have a firearms licence, nor was it known where he was living at the time of the shooting. Police said he had ''very recently'' moved from Milton, where he had been living and working at the Otago Corrections Facility.

Chris Foot, a Kiwi St neighbour of the family, politely declined to comment about his involvement in the incident yesterday.

''It's not about me, it's about them [the deceased],'' he said.

Police expected to complete their scene examination at the Kiwi St house in the next few days.
