GOLF

Mount Aspiring College golfers Zac McIntyre, Raphael Anderson, Lucas Nichol and Jordy Cameron won the Otago Intermediate Schools Golf Championship earlier this month.

Thirty-eight teams (including five teams from Mount Aspiring College) played in the regional qualifying rounds all over Otago, with nine teams making the final.

Blue Mountain College claimed first and second place in the South Otago qualifying, held at Balclutha Golf Club.

In the metro qualifying, a strong Balmacewen team took first place,  at Twelve Oaks Golf Club. 

Both teams from Taieri College tied for second place each earning a spot in the final.

At Dunstan Golf Club, Mount Aspiring College took first place, followed by Roxburgh Golf Club. 

Remarkables and Arrowtown secured their spots via qualifying at Frankton Golf Club.

In the final at Lawrence Golf Club, Mount Aspiring College produced the goods to win the tournament. 

In a rolling Ambrose format, the team posted a score of 43 for nine holes, winning by 12 shots over Roxburgh School in second place and Taieri College in third.

TRIATHLON

MAC entered 21 junior triathletes and 15 teams teams in the Central Otago Primary School Triathlon Championships in Queenstown on November 22.

The event catered for triathletes in years 7 and 8.

MAC pupils with top 10 results were: 

Year 7 Individual Boys: Theo Taylor, 1: Sam Taylor, 2; Blake Lindner, 5; Max McClean 7; Blake Dickens, 9. 

Year 7 Individual Girls: Paige Boomsma, 3; Ally Gray, 5; Sophia McClintock, 7, Fern Goodwin, 8.

Year 7  Boys Teams: MAC Speedy Spurs, Charlie Whipp, Iz Letcher, Harper Norman, 4; MAC Speed Demons — Toby Hartnell, Sebastian Persson, Finn Butland, 5.

Year 7 Girls Teams: MAC Girls Just Want To Have Fun — Janey Mavor, Hana Carnie, Naiah Beazley, 1; MAC BHJ — Honor Jones, Betsy Rowden, Jordi Bright, 6.

Year 7 Mixed Teams: Mason Wootton, Georgie Kitto, Zeska Rich, 3.

Year 8 Individual Boys: Vinnie Lamb, 1; Shannon Tisch-Wickes, 10.

Year 8 Individual Girls: Eva Small, 4; Mackenzie Smith, 5; Holly Radford, 9; Jaime Taylor, 10.

Year 8 Boys Teams: MAC Sprinters — Zac McIntyre, Jack Dobson, George Murray, 3; MAC Legends — Ollie Henton, Zack Wilson, Lauchlan Roy, 7.

Year 8 Girls Teams: MAC Racers — Zoe Fahy, Eve Pfahlert, Stella Harper, 1; MAC V.I.S — Sienna Clark, Vienna Harley, Ila Duncan, 3; MAC Headless Chickens — Olivia Smith, Bonnie Raynes, Scarlet Henshall, 5.

Year 8 Mixed Teams: Laia Mactaggart, Fergus MacRae, Olive Woolley, 3.

SNOW SPORTS

Congratulations to Lucia Georgalli (year 12), Cam Melville Ives (year 12), Fin Melville Ives (year 12) and Luke Harrold (year 10) who have all been named in the New Zealand team to compete in the World Youth Olympics in Gangwon, South Korea, from January 19 to February 1. 

These pupils are overseas training.

 

BIATHLON

Congratulations to MAC pupils Baxter Pollard (17), Lulu Pettit (17) and Nico Pettit (15) who were selected to represent New Zealand at the upcoming International Biathlon Union (IBU) and International Olympic Committee (IOC) winter camp in Slovenia. 

The camp brings together the best youth biathlon (cross-country skiing and shooting) athletes from around the world for a week of practical and theoretical knowledge and training. 

Following the camp, the athletes will take part in their first international races in December.
