The Silverstream continues to flow, despite a heavy frost on the banks around a ford in Silverstream Valley Rd yesterday.

The temperature dropped to -6.5°C on the Taieri — by far the coldest spot in Otago and Southland yesterday morning.

Driving conditions were so severe that a 50-year-old woman was taken to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries after her vehicle slid off Silverstream Valley Rd about 5.45am.

Traffic also moved at a snail’s pace around some of Dunedin’s hill suburbs as drivers carefully navigated frosty streets.
