Waikouaiti surrounded by green and blue

Waikouaiti (estimated population 1310) is the first large town on the highway north of Dunedin and the last town inside the city boundary. The settlement was earlier called Hawksbury; the name still applies to the lagoon and to the former hospital 3.7km to the south.
