Enjoying a play at Port Chalmers’ refurbished Watson Park are Amaia, 3, and her brother Manawa, 7, Koppert-Duggan of Green Island. The major upgrade of Watson Park began last October and was completed recently.

A range of new play structures were installed including a 7m-high climbing net, in-ground trampoline, spinner, mini pump and cycle track, toddler swing and a nature play area.

A Dunedin City Council spokesperson said the Watson Park playground project was delivered within budget, however the construction timeline was extended due to a combination of delays.

The council had worked closely with Aukaha on a design for the softfall ground covering for the playground. Unfortunately, the cost of implementing the design exceeded the budget. Any reduction or alteration of the design would have diminished the proposed narrative, therefore not included. The spokesperson said the council appreciated the close working relationship it had with Aukaha.
